2012 - 2014 Special Assessment Roll
Thompson Lake in Howell, MI is a large lake surrounded by extensive development and residents are interested in an assessment of limnological conditions.
Freshwater Physicians, INC. performed a systematic survey in 1976, which was used for comparative purposes to investigate the current health of the lake during 2002.
Since our
initial survey in 1976, the east end of the lake has been extensively
developed and sewers were installed to curtail cultural
eutrophication. Extensive management of aquatic plants has been
conducted in past years to control nuisance Eurasian water milfoil.
Large areas of the lake, especially in the east, that had been formerly
covered with this plant and other native species showed large areas of
open water in 2002, during this survey.
We thank Brian Jonckheere for assistance in coordinating the study and Dale Greal for being captain and taking us where we needed to sample and providing us with updates on the status of the lake.
