The LCHMRT is composed of members from Livingston County EMS and also members of various fire departments in the county. They respond to all hazard materials calls within the County. Equipment on the hazmat trailer includes Level A, B and C suits, gas monitoring equipment, many kinds of absorbent materials and pads, reference materials and much more.

Livingston County EMS is an integral part of the team, providing the technical decon of patients, and treatment of those patients. The medical treatment trailer has it's own reference material and Livingston County EMS has taken the lead in developing specific treatment protocols for use by HazMat Team members.

These protocols have been adopted by the Washtenaw/Livingston Medical Control Authority and are available for download in our protocols section. All Hazmat paramedics receive specialized training and can treat a variety of exposures on the scene, while decon is taking place.

An antidote drug box has been created along with the protocols to treat such things such as organophosphate poisonings and cyanide exposure, along with a number of other potential exposures.

The HazMat Trailer carries a heated decon tent and also has the ability to have hot water showers on a scene. This equipment can be set up within minutes of arriving on a scene. Special computer programs allow the hazmat team to research treatment and decontamination of patients while a rescue is taking place.
