Commissioner VanHouten has held a seat on the  Livingston County Board of Commissioners since  January, 2005. As a member of this Board, Commissioner  VanHouten is the chairman of Personnel Committee, Parks & Open Space Advisory Committee and  East/West Complex Master Plan.  He serves on the Public Safety/Judiciary, Infrastructure & Development and Finance Committees.

Commissioner VanHouten represents District 4 which includes: all of Conway, Handy, Iosco and Unadilla Townships, Putnam Township Precinct 1, Village of Fowlerville.
