Children's Special Health Care Services  A state of Michigan program designed to provide early identification and advocacy for children with eligible medical conditions as well as assistance with medical costs.  

Communicable Disease Control  A Public Health Nurse is available by telephone to answer questions about communicable diseases and sexually transmitted infections.  To report serious communicable disease outbreaks or issues, call (517) 546-9850, 24 hours daily.

Healthy Habits   Four healthy habits to lower your risk of diabetes, heart attack, stroke or cancer. 
Eat daily:
-   at least 5 different fruits and vegetables,
-   3 unrefined whole-grain foods, such as brown rice, oatmeal,
    100% whole wheat bread
-   3-6 ounces lean meat and skinless poultry
-   2-3 servings of fat-free, 1 percent fat, and low-fat dairy products
Exercise for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week -- brisk walking or gardening, for example.

Don't smoke

Maintain a healthy weight -- a BMI between 18.5 and 25 is ideal.

Hearing and Vision Screening  This program offers hearing screening for children from birth to age 21 and vision screening from 6 months to age 21. Free screenings are conducted in public, private and charter schools, and by appointment at the Health Department.

HIV Testing  Free confidential or anonymous HIV testing is available by appointment.

Immunizations, Influenza, and TB Testing  Immunizations are available on a walk-in basis on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., with extended hours until 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month. LCDPH offers all childhood immunizations, and many immunizations for adults. TB skin tests are done on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on a walk-in basis. There is a charge for Immunization and TB testing services.

MI Child, Healthy Kids, MOMS, and Plan First  LCDPH assists children and pregnant women who are income eligible in obtaining health insurance, and can assist with referrals to LCDPH programs and medical providers.  Plan First provides a family planning service benefit for non-pregnant women ages 19 through 44.

Nurses Welcome Newborns  A home visit from a Public Health Nurse is offered to all parents of newborns to provide: information about infant nutrition, growth and development and safety; community resources and referrals; and car seat checks by appointments.

WIC   Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Education and Supplemental Food Program provides coupons for nutritious foods to pregnant women, women up to 6 months post partum, breastfeeding women up to 1 year, infant, and children up to 5 years of age who are income eligible and have a nutrition related health risk, Call the WIC office at (517) 546-5459.
