Workgroup Objectives:
Prevention and Treatment Objectives
1. Increase knowledge and skills across systems on substance abuse issues
and delivery Strategies/Activities.
2. Survey community agencies including law enforcement, faith-based
organizations, business, medical community, and health and human service
organizations to determine what information is needed.
3. Provide community trainings for staff using the results of the survey.
4. Provide training to service providers, the court, medical providers,
pharmacies, and others on the diagnostic criteria (DSM-IV and ASAM),
definitions of abuse versus dependency, and the limitations of the current
systems of assessment and treatment.
5. Offer training and educational opportunities to the medical community
about use and trends to increase their understanding of the issue and
attempt to change their behavior related to prescribing.
6. Coordinate with the Community Needs Assessment and Evaluation
Committee to increase access to youth behavioral risk data working in
partnerships with the five school districts.
