Juvenile Diversion![]()
The Livingston County Juvenile Diversion
Program focus is on diverting youth from the juvenile justice system.
This program realizes that many youth are more appropriately served
outside the court system. It seeks to provide positive alternatives to
court involvement, help avoid the negative labeling that often
accompanies court adjudication and save court resources for more serious
offenders.
All juveniles and their parent/guardian, must agree to full
participation in the Diversion Program and juveniles admit to the
charge(s) pending. They must agree to and sign the Diversion Record
agreement which clearly states the requirements for a successful
completion of the Diversion Program.
The youth referred to this program receive a combination of
creative alternatives designed to address the needs of the youth,
their family, and the community.
There is a one time $75.00 fee for this program and a $10.00 fee
per session for assessments and counseling.
Services include a minimum of monthly supervision by a Juvenile
Diversion case manager.
The length of the diversion period may last from 90 days up to 120
days if additional services are needed.
Program requirements may include, but are not limited to, counseling for the individual and/or their
family members, community service work, alcohol and drug awareness
classes, anti-smoking classes, letters of apology, court watch,
essays, reports, etc.
If the youth accepts the Diversion Program and successfully
completes the program, their juvenile diversion record is destroyed
within 28 days after their l7th birthday as required by law.
If the youth does not complete the Diversion Program, their case
may be returned to the Juvenile Court for prosecution which may
result in placement on probation and a juvenile record.
This program is made possible by the cooperation of the County
Commissioners, Juvenile Court, Prosecutor's Office, and Sheriff's
Department. Funding is provided by a
grant from The County Commissioners and a one time administrative
fee of $75.00 charged to each youth.
