Michigan Prosperity Initiative: 100 Free New Economy Training Programs in 60 Days The Michigan Prosperity Initiative is offering 100 training programs in 60 days throughout the state as part of the Michigan Prosperity Initiative (MPI) http://www.landpolicy.msu.edu/modules.php?name=Pages&sp_id=498 This initiative is an important partnership between Michigan State University, the State of Michigan, regional councils of government and Michigan's local governments to better prepare Michigan to compete in the global New Economy. The free trainings, to be lead by the MSU Land Policy Institute and MSU Extension, will take place in each region from Monday, April 19 through Wednesday, June 16, 2010. The initiative includes three levels of training programs: New Economy 101, 201 and 301. Each event is progressively more complex, with 101 being intended for general audiences. This two-hour program is for anyone with an interest in how Michigan got into its current economic circumstances, and what it will take to get out. This four-hour program is intended for those that attended New Economy 101, and professionals and representatives of key stakeholder groups who want to learn how to develop regional economic development strategies that are based on unique place-based assets. This six-hour program is intended for those that attended the first two programs, and planning and economic development professionals who value training on underutilized economic analysis tools and how to apply them to concrete actions we need to take locally and regionally to improve prosperity in Michigan. Note: Lunch is on your own. The training programs are available for free. Registration is available online. There is a small charge for pre-printed handouts for those who are interested. These materials will also be available for download free of charge prior to the event for those who register for a training session(s). Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your space today by registering online. Dates, times and training locations are available in several formats (PDF and maps) at New Economy Training Schedules. Michigan Citizen Planner is offering Master Citizen Planner continuing education units (CEUs) for New Economy 201 and 301 for a nominal charge. More details coming soon.
