 Livingston County's High-Quality Natural Areas

Local decision makers recognize that natural areas improve their residents quality of life and they therefore consistently express the desire to identify and protect the natural resources within their community.

This report first documents the County's natural resources such as forests, streams, wetlands, and wildlife. The report then identifies over 1,000 individual natural areas. These areas include only natural land cover such as forests, wetlands, and prairies; they do not include any homes, businesses, roads, or other man-made improvements.

All the County's natural areas are then prioritized into three categories, Priority I, Priority II, and Priority III, using 10 criteria developed to identify the largest, most healthy and most sustainable natural areas. Lastly, the report includes some analysis of the results and suggestions for local residents and decision makers on how to use this information to protect local natural areas.  $11.00 for a bound copy at the Planning Office or click here to download a copy that you can print yourself.
